Responding to the challenges Covid-19 has brought to our families, friends and communities the Irish Peatland Conservation Council are adapting and bringing boglands and energy into your classroom – virtually!
The Irish Environmental Network through their fundraising support grant have encouraged the Irish Peatland Conservation Council to adapt how we deliver and raise awareness of Ireland’s wet and wild peatland habitat, their biodiversity and their values.
Suitable for primary school students virtual bogland and energy visits are FREE at this time:
The Heritage in Schools Scheme of the Heritage Council are offering free virtual bogland visits until the end of the academic term in June 2021. These visits presented by the Irish Peatland Conservation Council’s Paula Farrell & Nuala Madigan are suitable for students from junior infants-6th class. They explore all aspects of boglands from their formation, biodiversity and values. Each virtual visit includes a teacher led narrated video and plant identification activity and is followed by a live zoom call to your classroom. To book a visit simply contact us at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre 045-860133 or bogs@.
With funding support from the Community Foundation for Ireland through their Biodiversity Fund 2020 a further 10 virtual bogland visits are also free. Book by contacting the Irish Peatland Conservation Council at 045-860133 or bogs@.
With funding support from the Peatlands Management Unit of the National Parks and Wildlife Service under the Peatlands Communities Engagement Scheme 2021 another 15 bogland virtual visits are free. Book by contacting the Irish Peatland Conservation Council at 045-860133 or bogs@.

The energy workshop is very interactive and involves classroom games, online quizzes and experiments. It is approximately one hour in duration and will be facilitated on Zoom by Paula Farrell & Nuala Madigan.
